WoW Classic First Aid Guide (including TBC and WotLK)

First aid is a secondary profession that any character can learn. It’s useful for combat and leveling purposes, but not for making gold. First aid is also the easiest secondary profession to level up.

First aid is used to make two things:

  1. Bandages (can be used in combat, as opposed to food, to quickly restore some health)
  2. Anti-venoms (cure poisons)

The further you advance in skill, the better bandages and anti-venoms will become available to you. The act of applying bandages is channeled, so if you take any damage (even from DoTs) it will cancel the remaining healing. Therefore, try to apply bandages only when you are safe from damage, though in emergencies it’s sometimes worth getting a tick or two of healing out of a bandage even if it will cancel after that.

You receive a 60 second debuff after using a bandage, which prevents any more bandages from being used on you during that time.

First aid leveling guide WoW Classic 1-450

Leveling up first aid is easy. I recommend you learn it early and advance in skill as you level, because bandages are useful to minimize downtime between fights and can often save your life. All cloth you need to make bandages comes from humanoids of progressively higher levels, or you can always buy it at the auction house.

  1. Start by learning Apprentice First Aid, which will teach you how to make linen bandages. Then return to the trainer to learn better bandages as you advance in skill.
  2. To get past 150 you need Expert First Aid – Under Wraps. Alliance can buy it from Deneb Walker while Horde can buy it from Balai Lok’Wein.
  3. Once you’ve learned Silk Bandage, you need to get manuals to learn Heavy Silk Bandage i.e. Manual: Heavy Silk Bandage and Mageweave Bandage i.e. Manual: Mageweave Bandage. Look in the table below for vendors for these items. Update: These manuals may no be needed anymore in WotLK. These bandages might be trainable from first aid trainers instead.
  4. Once at skill 225 and level 35 you can do the quest Triage (Alliance) or Triage (Horde) that rewards Artisan First Aid which allows a first aid skill up to 300. The quest is really simple, just hotkey the provided bandages and help the most wounded patients first and stand in the middle of the room so you can reach everyone without moving.
  5. As you continue to advance in skill you can return to the Triage quest giver and he’ll teach you Heavy Mageweave Bandage, Runecloth Bandage and Heavy Runecloth Bandage at skill 240, 260, and 290 respectively, free of charge.
  6. For Strong Anti-Venom and Powerful Anti-Venom, check the table below.
  7. If you have The Burning Crusade, you can train Master First Aid, which allows a first aid skill up to 375, as well as Netherweave Bandage and Heavy Netherweave Bandage. They are all available from books. Horde can buy them from Aresella in Hellfire Peninsula, while Alliance can buy them from Burko in Hellfire Peninsula.
  8. To learn Netherweave Bandage you need 330 skill which is easiest to get by creating a lot of Heavy Runecloth Bandages.
  9. Level up on Netherweave and Heavy Netherweave bandages until you reach skill 350.
  10. Learn Frostweave Bandage from any of these trainers at skill 350. Level up on that until you reach 400.
  11. The final bandage is Heavy Frostweave Bandage, learned from Manual: Heavy Frostweave Bandage. It’s mostly a random drop inside dungeons, but there seems to be a spot in Zul’Drak where it drops frequently. Go kill Drakuru Berserkers and other mobs fighting the NPCs in that area, and you should get the manual soon enough (within 10-20 kills at most) if you have 400 first aid skill.
  12. Level up on Heavy Frostweave Bandage to 450 skill.

*** These manuals may not be required in WotLK; those bandages might be trainable from first aid trainers.

Other bandages

The battleground NPCs outside the entrance to Alterac Valley, Arathi Basin, and Warsong Gulch will sell different types of bandages that can only be used inside their respective battleground. They do have character level and first aid skill requirements, but are much cheaper than making your own bandages.
