In the depths of Northern Stranglethorn Vale lies the Ruins of Zul’ Mamwe, a long forgotten troll city. Our focus today is not that of the fallen city, nor in the current state of the Skullsplitter Trolls that still inhabit the area, but instead on a rare herb that the local Witch Doctors carry with them.
Wildvine can be valuable at the auction house.
Wildvine is a highly profitable herb that is used in almost every Vanilla (1-60) crafting profession, yet it is rather hard to gather in large quantities because it is not picked by herbalists like normal herbs. When picking Purple Lotus there is only about a 5% chance to gather a single Wildvine. This is a highly inefficient way to farm for the herb, so instead we are going to the Eastern Kingdoms to Northern Stranglethorn Vale. The mob ‘Skullsplitter Witch Doctor’ has approximately a 10% chance to drop Wildvine, and these mobs are all over this area.

Directly south from Zul’Gurub, right next to the small maelstrom by Fort Livingston you will find this farm.
The Witch Doctors shares spawn locations with all of the other Skullspliter mobs as well (Berserkers, Headhunter, Scout and more) so be sure to kill all of the troll mobs you see.
You can use the following macro:
/cleartarget
/target skull
/cast sunfire
Sunfire assumes that you are a druid. For other classes, use another attack spell or ability instead, preferably one that is instant.
Skullsplitter Witch Doctor.
Simply, all you need to do is fly just under the forest canopy and rain death upon all the troll mobs you come across. The mobs will respawn before you complete each lap so there will always be fresh ones to farm. In my experience solo farming these mobs I can average between 15-30 per hour, and for a herb that sells fast and for 1k Gold each, that is not a bad time investment.
Additional notes:
- Hyperspawn – These mobs are part of a quest, meaning that the game will force spawn mobs if there is only a small number available. The faster you kill the mobs the faster they will spawn.
- Group Farm – Because this is a hyperspawn, invite your friends to a group, spread out, and kill everything together. The faster the mobs die the faster they respawn.
- Stranglethorn Vale Pet Drop – All mobs in Stranglethorn Vale have a chance to drop the pet ‘Razzashi Hatchling’, so there is a chance to get this rare pet while farming as well.
