Primal Fire farming guide

Of all the crafting materials from the Burning Crusade expansion, Primal Fire is by far the most used. While all of the other primals are used in large quantities, Primal Fire tops the charts in quantity required as well as still fetching a good price around 500g each.

While there are dozens of places to farm Primal Fire, my personal favorite is in the Throne of Kil’jaeden in the northern mountains of Hellfire Peninsula. You will have to use your flying mount to reach this reclusive farm because the only other way to get up here is by a quest chain.

Once you have ascended the mountain, you can begin culling the Incandescent Fel Sparks. They have a chance of dropping the item Mote of Fire with which you can combine 10 of to create a single Primal Fire. They do drop other trash items, some greens, and on the rare occasion a lucrative world item drop, but the majority of your focus should simply be on the materials.

While farming, avoid the mobs “Felblood Initiate” that can be observed worshiping at altars around the area. While they pose no threat to you, you also pose no threat to them as they cannot be killed outside of the aforementioned quest. You can reduce their health to 1HP but no lower, and then you will have to run away on foot to drop agro before mounting up again. So it’s just easier to avoid them.

All in all, you just have to fly circles around the area killing any fire elementals you see while avoiding the others.

I recommend the following macro if you’re a druid.

/cleartarget

/target Inc

/cast moonfire

Moonfire assumes you play a druid. Otherwise, replace moonfire with another attack spell or ability, preferably an instant one.

Additional notes

  • Rare Spawn – Doom Lord Kazzak is a rare Elite NPC that spawns on top of the center altar in the Throne of Kil’jaeden. He is on a 4-8 hour respawn timer and is usually only up for a few minutes before taken down. He guarantees two epic item drops per person each kill, ranging from 500g to 100,000g items. Keep an eye open for him.
  • Hyperspawn – These mobs are part of a quest, meaning that the game will force spawn mobs if there is only a small number available. The faster you kill the mobs the faster they will spawn.
  • Group Farm – Because this is a hyperspawn, invite your friends to a group, spread out, and kill everything together. The faster the mobs die the faster they respawn.
