Deviate Fish are used to cook Savory Deviate Delight, a “vanity food” that can turn the eater into a ninja or a pirate.
The recipe is a rare random drop from any mob in The Barrens, about 1 in 1000, and often sells for hundreds or thousands of gold. The best profits will be made from catching the fish, cooking them and selling them as Savory Deviate Delight. But you can still make good profits from selling the raw Deviate Fish.
They can only be caught in two places: The Barrens and Wailing Caverns. Pools spawn at the three oases, but you don’t have to fish from the pools to catch them. In fact, looking for pools may be counter productive.
In patch 3.1, Deviate Fish are a common reward from fishing dailies. However, the prices still seem to be holding up quite well. WoW.Allakhazam.com report median prices of the raw fish to be 1g and almost 2g for the cooked variant.
Considering you can fish these at level ~15 (alliance have to be higher level and should take the boat from Booty Bay, Stranglethorn Vale to Ratchet, The Barrens), and get around 50 or more per hour, that’s a gold mine.
