Fel Scales farming guide

Outland has many great opportunities for skinners to make easy gold. Fel Scales are a good example of this and these items are relatively easy to farm. If you have your own leatherworker then you can make even more by crafting them into any of the 17 different leatherworking items that require them to make. For now, let’s focus on just the gathering.

Fel Scales

Fel Scales can fetch decent gold at the auction house.

While there are many mobs in Outland that you can skin Fel Scales from, there is no better place than the northeastern ridge along Zangarmarsh. Here you will find several basilisks… I mean Marshrock… mobs that can be killed and skinned.

Marshrock mobs

Marshrock mobs. Good for Fel Scales.

On the very outside of the ridge, close to the edge of the world you will find plenty of these profitable pouchables. Work your way around the edge killing and skinning all the mobs you come across because these will hyperspawn due to being part of a quest. So by culling all of them along your path you are guaranteeing that they will spawn behind you for your next lap.

With around a 20% drop chance, each lap should yield you three to four scales. But wait, there’s more! These basilisks also have a 10-15% chance to drop Crystal Infused Leather when skinned. This sells for on average about 50G each which is still quite good. And the best part is that you have a chance of getting a mix between Knothide Leather and either one of the previously mentioned materials. That makes this an outstanding farm for diversity and efficiency.

Here’s a macro you can use:

/cleartarget

/target Mar

/cast sunfire

Sunfire assumes that you are a druid. For other classes, use another attack spell or ability instead, preferably one that is instant.

Additional notes:

  • Hyperspawn – These mobs are part of a quest, meaning that the game will force spawn mobs if there is only a small number available. The faster you kill the mobs the faster they will spawn.
  • Group Farm – Because this is a hyperspawn, invite your friends to a group, spread out, and kill everything together. The faster the mobs die the faster they respawn. After a few minutes of killing, everyone can skin their own mobs, reset, and do again.
