Doctor Weavil’s Big Red Raygun farming guide

Off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh lies the innocuous Alcaz Island. Most would pass this island without a second thought however it was updated back in Legion and the mobs here are level 112, despite being in a Vanilla level 60 zone. In the center of the island is Doctor Weavil, a 112 elite with an expensive toy, the Big Red Raygun.

Big Red Raygun

Big Red Raygun can be quite valuable.

Alcaz Island is to the northeast of Dustwallow Marsh, and be warned, this is a no-fly-zone. If you attempt to fly over this island you will be shot out of the sky by anti-aircraft guns where you will fall into the ocean surrounding the island. If you are clever, you could use a goblin glider to still fly in, but it’s not really worth it in my opinion.

On the west side of the island is a pier and an entrance, allowing players to dive deeper into the mad scientist’s island. Once you reach ground fall you will start running into higher level mobs who pose little threat to max level players.

Follow the path but move slowly. There are hidden landmines that will explode doing % based damage. So even max level mythic raid geared tanks will take 80% of their max health as damage. Just heal up after taking the damage before moving along so that the next one doesn’t kill you. At the first intersection, take a right turn towards the center of the island that has 3 buildings.

The middle house, the only 2 story building, is our target.

Most of the mobs inside are fodder, however pay special attention to the debuff they will apply called Drudge Sludge. It increases Nature damage taken by 5% by stack, and at 10 stacks you will immediately die. There is a graveyard nearby so it isn’t that bad, but try to avoid needless deaths.

At the bottom of the staircase is Doctor Weavil’s mechanical Guard dog, GU-4RD-3R. If you collect hunter pets, you will have to drop his health a good bit without killing him for you to tame him. Otherwise, nuke him and run upstairs.

At last we can see the mad scientist who makes the toy we are after. Doctor Weavil. If you are not max level he may pose a bit of a challenge. He will periodically stun players as well as apply the previously mentioned Drudge Sludge. Feel free to stunlock him or just burn him down and claim your reward.

The Big Red Raygun only has about a 3-5% chance to drop, however Doctor Weavil has a fast respawn of only 5 minutes. Meaning you can kill him about 12 times an hour.

Additional notes:

  • Group Farm – Inviting your friends on this hunt can prove to be very beneficial. If you are on different shards you can ungroup and wait for Doctor Weavil to spawn on someone’s shard. Once he does, that person invites all the others which will force them to zone into the leader’s shard and everyone can get credit for the kill. Ungroup, then repeat. Each person in your group doing this can (in theory) increase the number of kills by another 12 every hour.
