Best WoW Quest Addons?

When it comes to World of Warcraft, leveling can be a tough challenge. That’s why it’s important to get your hands on the best WoW quest addons, so that you can quickly go from quest to quest, gaining XP and rewards as quickly as possible, each time you want to level up another character. Here are some of the best WoW questing addons I’ve found. Some are free, others have a cost, but all of them have something to offer.

Zygor Guides and Joana’s Classic Leveling Guides are typically called leveling guides and show you how to go from level 1 (or any level) to max level. Since they are based on questing, they will show you how to complete a large number of quests while gaining levels fast.

Zygor quest addon

Zygor "quest addon"Zygor Guides is the first addon for completing quests we’ll be covering. It is, in a nutshell, a step-by-step leveling guide that you can view inside WoW, that shows you how to level up fast, mainly by doing quests.

Getting from 1 to 60, 70 or 80 on any character (of any class and race), whether you’re playing new World of Warcraft or WoW Classic, is greatly simplified with Zygor Guides.

The moment you begin with Zygor Guides, you can see just how detailed the instructions are for each quest, so there’s very rarely any question on what you have to do next. This addon gives you a streamlined route to leveling from the startup zone, be it Death Knights, or any race, you’ll be out of the starter zone on any character in no time, and go on to 60, 70 or 80. Probably one of the best things about Zygor, is that it’s more than a leveling guide. It actually will show you how you can spend your talent points on any character, in order to customize your character in a way that will allow it to level even faster. This can cut a significant amount of time off of leveling.

Joana’s Classic Leveling Guides

Joana's Classic Leveling GuidesIf you’re playing WoW Classic, quests are an essential part of leveling up. Without quests, it will take a very long time and it’ll be very frustrating because you’ll have to grind (kill mobs repeatedly) for extended amounts of time. Fortunately, a professional WoW gamer has put together detailed step-by-step leveling guides for WoW Classic and WotLK Classic that work for Horde and Alliance, for any class and race.

Joana’s Classic Leveling Guides are almost entirely based on quests, and will show you the best streamlined route in which to pick up quests, where to do them, in what order, which quests items you may need and where to get them, and when to turn the quests back in and get new ones. Joana’s guides are amazingly detailed and easy to follow, and really are step-by-step all the way. You’ll be doing tons of quests with this guide, even many “hidden” ones you never knew about. You can either view Joana’s leveling guides in your browser online, and he’s also created an in-game addon, so you see all the instructions right inside WoW Classic. This addon also includes a navigation system that points you in the right direction to go all the time, to complete the next step in the guide. Highly recommended for leveling and completing quests in WoW Classic.

Questie (WoW Classic & WotLK)

One of the most popular and highly acclaimed free quest addons in recent times is Questie. It can help with numerous tasks related to completing quests and leveling, like showing available quests in a zone on the world map and mini map, including the level of the quest, the objectives and amount of XP it grants. Furthermore, it also shows you where to complete quests that you have accepted by pointing out locations of mobs, NPCs, objectives and turn-in points. You can also search Questie’s database of NPCs, quests, mobs and more, to find more quests to complete or get help with completing the quests in your log.

Questie is also highly customizable so you can make it fit your needs. You can also combine Questie with another addon, TomTom, to give you an arrow inside WoW that shows you where to go to accomplish objectives and such.

One great feature with Questie is that you can see ALL quests in a zone if you want to. This is great if you’re a completionist who wants to complete them all.

Questie works for WoW Classic and WotLK Classic, not new/retail World of Warcraft. It’s also not a step-by-step leveling/questing guide that leads you by the hand to max level, however it can still be a very helpful addon for questing and leveling.

LightHeaded addon

What if you’re looking for a more simple, minimalistic, light-weight questing addon? If that’s the case, then LightHeaded is a great option. This addon too, is totally free, and it’s great for someone who’s just looking for something a bit more basic. One of its biggest features is showing you quest information and people’s comments from Wowhead. While this doesn’t give you the whole kitchen sink, it definitely makes questing easier, and will help you should you ever get stuck on a certain quest. That makes this addon very useful.

TomTom

TomTom is a navigational addon that helps you find and go to locations in WoW that you can specify. If you know the coordinates to a location – for example from Wowhead, comments in forums, or videos, or from articles on the Internet – you can enter the coordinates with a command, and the location will show up on the world map and mini map as a waypoint. TomTom also has a waypoint arrow that can show you how to get to the waypoint you’ve selected. You can also set waypoints by clicking on the world map, and then use TomTom’s arrow to guide you there.

TomTom can even set a waypoint automatically for your closest quest objective, at least in new/retail World of Warcraft. This can make questing a whole lot easier. Furthermore, TomTom can be used with LightHeaded (mentioned above), allowing you to find coordinates from Wowhead and have them show up on your map as waypoints. This can be quite a powerful combination once you’ve set it up.

Wholly addon

This addon helps you see all the quests available in a zone on your world map. You can filter them in many ways, so that you only see the ones that you can actually accept and complete. For example, Wholly can hide the quests you’ve already done, the quests that have pre-requisites that you haven’t completed, or require certain professions etc. That way, you’re left with a list of quests that your character can actually do. It integrates with many other questing addons, like LightHeaded and TomTom, and also helps you complete quests in a more streamlined manner.

Guidelime addon + leveling guides by TUG

Guidelime is an addon for displaying leveling guides inside WoW Classic and WotLK Classic (not WoW retail/new/Dragonflight). Guidelime provides a window inside WoW that is used to display instructions from leveling guides. Guidelime also includes a navigation arrow, so whenever a location is mentioned in a leveling guide that is loaded, the arrow will show you the direction to that location. Locations are also displayed on your maps as small icons.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed Guidelime, you also need leveling guides to view using Guidelime, because Guidelime itself is just used to display guides that you import into it. One popular leveling guide that is largely based on questing, is the Alliance and Horde leveling guide by TUG (TheUnprofessionalGamerTV). His guide covers levels 1-80 for Alliance and Horde, with the exception of levels 60-70 on the Horde side, that are currently being worked on. By combining his leveling guide with the Guidelime addon, you’ve got a step-by-step guide inside WoW for leveling, that is mostly accomplished by completing quests, and works for WoW Classic and Wrath of the Lich King Classic. There are also other leveling guides for WoW Classic that you can download and import into Guidelime. This does seem like a helpful solution for completing quests while leveling, and you can’t really beat the price since it’s free.

QuestHelper addon (discontinued)

Next, we’ll look at an addon known as QuestHelper. QuestHelper is a free addon that helps with all things related to quests, obviously. However, it seems to be discontinued now. It has not been updated since September 25, 2012, so it’s safe to say that it doesn’t support the more recent expansions, such as Battle for Azeroth, Shadowlands and Dragonflight. However, it may still be useable if you’re playing WoW Classic and can find a working version of QuestHelper.

At the time when it was still being maintained, it would show you how to complete your quests faster, by taking a look at ALL of the quests you have in your log at any given moment, and try to calculate the fastest way to do them, based on your character’s current location. It used to be a very popular addon but the usefulness nowadays is dubious.
