Joana’s WoW Classic leveling guide addon – Review

Get Joana’s leveling guides

Joana's leveling guide addonJoana’s WoW Classic guides are leveling guides for WoW Classic, including The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, written by a legendary gamer that holds the world record for the fastest player ever to get to level 60 on a new realm. Despite the female name of the guides (Joana), the person behind them is actually a guy who also goes by the names Mancow or FuriousPaul online. Joana’s leveling guides are entirely focused on WoW Classic and expansions, not the new version of World of Warcraft (sometimes called “retail”)

Joana’s guides cover both Horde and Alliance, and show you step-by-step how to level incredibly fast from level 1 to 60, 70 and 80 in WoW ClassicYou’re essentially given access to his leveling path, with detailed instructions, which is probably the fastest known path through WoW Classic.

Best part? He has released an addon so you can view all the guides inside WoW, and it works with a navigational arrow that shows you where to go all the time.

TBC and WotLK guides included

The guides were originally written and released in 2006, but have been improved and expanded dramatically since then. As of this writing, Joana’s Classic guides include:

  • 1-60 leveling guides
  • 60-70 leveling guides for The Burning Crusade (TBC) Classic expansion (i.e. Outland)
  • 70-80 leveling guides for Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK) Classic expansion (i.e. Northrend)

These guides work for Horde and Alliance, with every class and race. The 60-70 guides also cover Bloodmyst Isle and Ghostlands, while the 70-80 guides include a Death Knight leveling guide as well.

In-game addon included

As mentioned, Joana has created an in-game addon so you can view all the guides right inside WoW. You still also get web-based guides that you can view in your internet browser, as well.

The addon gives you a window inside WoW that shows you the next step to complete, and also gives you a navigational waypoint arrow that points you in the right direction all the time. That way you know exactly what to do and where to do it at all times. The addon will sense when you’ve completed a step and automatically load the next step, which is very convenient. The addon also gives you additional targeting features which makes it easier to target certains NPCs or mobs that are needed in quests. You can also hotkey quest items, which is very handy when completing quests that involve them. There are many more features that you can read about on Joana’s official website.

Get ALL guides with a low monthly payment

You can get access to all of Joana’s leveling guides for a monthly payment, which is currently $5.95. This gives you access to everything, including the leveling guides that you view on the web and the addon, for Horde and Alliance, for every class and race. If you don’t want or need the guides anymore, you can simply cancel your subscription. This makes it a very affordable option for WoW Classic leveling guides. In fact, it’s one of the cheapeast options I have ever seen. As long as you’re a paying subscriber, you also get all updates and improvements and upgrades that he releases to the guides, which are frequent.

Other highlights of Joana’s guides

I used Joana’s leveling guides around 2006 before all the expansions, when 1-60 was the only available version of the game, and I think they’re great. Here are just a few of the reasons why I like Joana guides:

  • There are separate step-by-step 1-60 leveling guides for Horde and Alliance, and the TBC 60-70 and WotLK 70-80 guides also work for both Horde & Alliance
  • Fully compatible with Era / vanilla realms (realms that always stay at level 60 without expansions)
  • Maps and helpful instructions are included in the web guides every step of the way
  • Lots of links to wowhead.com for items and NPCs throughout
  • You can view the web guides on a smartphone or tablet
  • Joana’s leveling guides work for all classes and races
  • Written by a true professional gamer that has spent tons of time to find the fastest possible leveling path to max level
  • Frequent updates and improvements, which you get access to as long as you’re a subscriber and pay the monthly fee. He often releases enhancements to his leveling path and guides so you can level up even faster and smoother.
  • Hardcore leveling guides included. All leveling guides allow you to toggle between Hardcore or normal, where Hardcore mode gives you a safer leveling experience.
  • Joana’s guides are made to adjust automatically to XP bonuses such as Joyous Journey or XP bonuses in Seasons of Mastery (SoM)
  • Updated for SoD phase 1 (Season of Discovery)
  • Will be updated for WoW Classic Cataclysm.

Free 1-12 leveling guides

If you go to Joana’s website, you can actually use the level 1-12 leveling guides for Horde and Alliance completely free. These cover 3 different starting zones each for Horde and Alliance. You can also access the 1-12 Blood Elf starting zone guide as well as the level 1-12 Draenei starting zone guide  for TBC Classic, all free. While this is mainly a free preview, it gives you a good idea of what you can expect if you want to get the full guides.

Joana’s WoW Guides: A brief history

Joana’s Horde Leveling Guide used to be an extremely popular leveling guide, around 2005 to 2009. It was written (and still is) by the same legendary gamer and speed runner of many games, who calls himself FuriousPaul. Joana was the name of his character in WoW (a female troll hunter). It was no coincidence that he leveled a hunter, since they are the fastest class to level solo in WoW, and he would do anything to level as fast as humanly possible.

He set leveling records in World of Warcraft by leveling himself solo to 60 faster than anyone else, often playing on new realms without any help from guild mates etc.

His 1-60 horde leveling guide showed everything he did inside the game, with detailed, written, step-by-step instructions and maps. You could see exactly which quests to pick up, where to do them, where to go, what items to buy and so on. It was extremely helpful, and back in those early years of WoW, leveling was actually way more difficult and took far more time, so his guide really helped a lot. It was a big hit, too, quickly reaching best-seller status among WoW guides.

Over the years, he updated his guide for level 60-70, 70-80 and even 80-90 if I remember correctly. Those updates also included a transition from a web based guide to an addon that had all the instructions inside the game.

Nowadays, Joana offers detailed step-by-step leveling guides for WoW Classic, including expansions, that work for any class and race, for Horde and Alliance, too. You can learn more about his WoW Classic leveling guides and leveling addon at the link below:
